When you are accessing the internet from your computer, be it a laptop or a desktop, your connection is shared with everyone in the network. If someone on that same network decides to download heavy files and slows down the internet for you, then that’s outrageous. That person should have his wireless router shut off! But sadly that can’t happen.
Thus, to prevent this from happening, ISPs employ a method called traffic shaping or Internet Traffic Management or ITMP. This works by slowing down everyone on the network except those who pay extra for their dedicated connection – which is why it’s not a very fair practice at all. But there are some workarounds to avoid ISP throttling.
With a VPN, you can prevent throttling from your ISP by routing all your traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a remote server and then back to your computer. It’s like putting a closed network barrier around the open Internet, which makes it impossible for ISPs to monitor or block your connection without knowing what they’re doing. Even if they throttle or slow down your connection, they wouldn’t know if the data is encrypted with a VPN.
However, not all VPN providers deliver this essential feature of traffic encryption. Some limit their users’ speed and bandwidth through heavy-handed server network management instead of throttling (which is what ISPs do). You might call it unfair competition to ISPs, but that’s how it is.
If you are wondering what the best free VPN to bypass ISP throttling, look no further than Windscribe. I have been testing it for two weeks now, and so far so good! It has a built-in adblocker, which saves bandwidth in addition to speeding up page loading times. You can change the server location from a list of 28 countries. And best of all, it comes with 10GB data per month. You can add more by tweeting about it!
I have been using Windscribe for a few days now and I can feel its efficiency in my browsing experience. In one word, AMAZING (yep, 3 letters!)
So, what are you waiting for? Download Windscribe on your laptop or desktop to stay safe from throttling! And if you are on mobile, don’t worry! We have some apps too 😉
You can get the Android app here. Or find the iOS app in the AppStore here. Otherwise, expressVPN is a worthy alternative.
P.S. It is not mandatory to tweet about it for getting more data allowance (i.e., you don’t lose the 10GB if you don’t). But do read their TOS loud and clear before signing up, as there are some points that might make people think twice before taking advantage of this generous offer.
